Have you ever found a brand you loved and needed to share it with any and everyone? (Sorry to my sister who’s fed up with me talking about hair care, workout clothes, and canned rosé so much). Hey, some brands are just doing it right! In particular, R + Co, Girlfriend Collective, and Drink Bev. Not only have I been a follower of them for years, but they always deliver a 10/10 aesthetic, mission, and most importantly, product.
1. R + Co
When I was interning at Sony Music in Los Angeles during the summer of 2015, I remember strolling down Melrose, just browsing shops, and I came across this cute beauty boutique. Most of the items in the shop were extremely out of my price range as a 19 year old, but I was determined to treat myself even if it was a little something. The new R + Co products that were displayed at the front of the store immediately caught my attention. Why? See below.
Branding: The names of the products alone are catchy AF. Atlantis for their moisturizing collection? Death Valley for their dry shampoo? Dallas for their thickening spray? C’MON. Genius. Those clever names paired with their hip artwork on each of the products makes for a brand that screams COOL.
Mission: R + Co is a forward thinking haircare brand. It’s modern, rule-bending, and always on the verge of the next best thing in haircare. In addition, they promote and support local artists by acknowledging hairstylists’ work from all over on their blog and Instagram. #SupportSmallBusiness
Product: That day in the little shop on Melrose I treated myself to a mini bottle of the Aircraft Pomade Mousse, and that along with many of their other products, became one of my staples. The Aircraft Pomade Mousse, Death Valley Dry Shampoo, Tinsel Soothing Oil, Outer Space Flexible Hairspray, and Atlantis Shampoo and Conditioner are my picks for taming frizz, creating texture, and the perfect amount of volume and hold.
2. Girlfriend Collective
Not to sound like that person, but I remember when I bought my first GC workout set week one of their launch in 2017. And guess what? I still rock it today.
Branding: The classic “girlfriend” serif font was ahead of its time when the brand first launched. It screamed hip, modern, and cool. Paired with their earthy, playful colors, and simple photography (with models of all shapes and sizes), the GC brand immediately reached a whole new level of real and artsy, standing out in the activewear industry.
Mission: They’re all about reducing the planet’s waste and ethical manufacturing – cue clapping. GC uses recycled materials like water bottles and fishing nets, to produce a stretchy, lightweight fabric you’ll never want to take off. Because believe it or not, missions of marine animals are harmed by ocean plastic pollution, so they’re taking steps to change that. We. Love. It.
Product: Best fit, best colors, and best material. I mean mine has lasted for three years and I still love it. I’m a fan of their Paloma Bra and their compressive High Rise legging. Plus, their price point is rather on the affordable end!
3. Drink Bev
Branding: It’s pink, it’s bold, and they’ve got their mission right on the can #BreakTheGlass. Way to get a point across. Not only does the colorful, simplistic branding evoke a sense of fun, it adds personality and depth to the Bev brand across all platforms. Shoutout to
Mission: The story of founder, Alix Peabody, in creating Bev is unlike any other. Let’s just say it started with her freezing her eggs and spending her life’s savings on rosé. You can read more about it here. Ultimately, Bev represents changing the norms for females in society. Whether that’s through how females are sexualized in advertisements to having a female CEO secure millions of dollars in investments. It’s all about #BreakingTheGlass (and rocking the can).
Product: Since first meeting Alix at a Bev launch party in Los Angeles in 2017, I’ve been obsessed with this rosé. It’s the perfect mix of sparkly, sweet, and good wine. Now they have two more members of the Bev fam, Pinot Grigio and Sauvignon Blanc, which are just as to die for. Highly recommend grabbing a Bev (or two) and doing a virtual happy hour with some friends ASAP.
